Invoice payment terms are the plain-language rules that state when, how and under what conditions a customer should pay.
Use an exact due date plus concise method, reference, deposit, discount and late-charge wording that matches the signed agreement.

Good invoice payment terms connect a payment term to a date, trigger, method, and evidence. The goal is to get paid without forcing the customer to interpret shorthand. Net 30 should not appear alone when an explicit due date can remove doubt.
Do not copy aggressive late payment language from another country. Interest, fees, collection steps, cancellation rights, and early payment discounts can affect tax, cash flow, and customer rights. Have the contract wording reviewed, then make the invoice terms consistent with it.
Agree payment terms before the invoice
Choose wording the client has already accepted. Adding a late fee or shortening the payment period on the final invoice does not by itself change the agreement. For instalments, state each amount, due date and what remains after that payment. For early-payment discounts, state the eligible amount and deadline so the customer can calculate the deduction without asking.
Example
Payment due 30 August 2026 by bank transfer. Include invoice IC-1048 as the payment reference. Bank charges are paid by the sender.
What to watch for
Do not add interest, collection fees or cancellation rules to an invoice if the customer never agreed to them or local law restricts them.
